Inventory Information Approval System

You can use of your ASIFlex Card at stores that have either implemented an Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS), also known as an Inventory Control System, or have certified that 90 percent of its cash register receipts in the previous calendar year were for MSA-eligible expenses. Transactions at any other store will be declined. View the list of stores that have these systems in place here.

IIAS allows you to use your ASIFlex Card at stores that are not typical health care providers (e.g., grocery stores, discount stores, warehouse clubs, etc.). IIAS restricts purchases with the cards to MSA-eligible expenses. If you make a purchase at one of these stores, you should not have to submit follow-up documentation. If you make a purchase at a store that has certified 90 percent of its receipts, you may need to provide documentation.

Here's an example: Tom goes to a store with IIAS in place and purchases a six-pack of soda and hearing aid batteries. He swipes his ASIFlex Card and selects the "credit" option. The amount for the hearing aid batteries is processed and then the cashier asks Tom to pay for his soda with a separate form of payment. Because the store has an IIAS in place that restricts Tom's purchase to just the hearing aid batteries Tom does not need to submit any follow up documentation to ASIFlex. Tom goes home and puts his receipt in an envelope designated for the current plan year so that if the IRS audits him, he has all necessary documentation readily available to him.
